01 / Cape Coral fencing

A Cape Coral fence company that prices the job before the visit.

Crown Fence Co LLC installs residential fence across Cape Coral, from the older southeast blocks near the Yacht Club and Bimini Basin to the newer builds north of Pine Island Road and out toward Burnt Store. We work the canal lots on both sides of the Caloosahatchee, the dry lots in the northwest, and the newer communities around Sandoval and Entrada.

Most Cape Coral fence companies make you call for a number. Our starting rates are on this page and in the estimator, so you can size the job before anyone comes out. Gates, property type, retaining walls, slopes and removing an old fence all change the number. Crown also builds decks and docks, which matters on a canal lot where the fence, the dock and the deck all meet at the seawall.

03 / Materials

Fence materials compared for Cape Coral conditions.

Vinyl is the Cape Coral default for a reason. Salt air does not corrode it, it does not need staining, and it holds color in full sun. Highest cost per foot, lowest upkeep.

Wood is the cheapest privacy fence and the one that asks the most of you. Pressure-treated pine handles Florida humidity and termites when it is sealed. Horizontal boards are the current look in the newer Cape neighborhoods.

Chain link keeps the view and the breeze. On a canal lot that matters twice over, because open mesh is what the city requires near the water and because an open fence takes far less wind load than a solid one.

Dura Fence is steel privacy. Solid like vinyl, but metal, in black, white, woodgrain or grey. A good answer when you want privacy without the plastic look.

04 / Canal lots

The rule that catches
Cape Coral homeowners.

Cape Coral has over 400 miles of canals, and the fence rules change once you are near the water. Within 20 feet of the rear property line on a waterfront site, anything above three feet has to be open mesh. A solid six-foot privacy fence running back to the seawall is not allowed.

What that means in practice: privacy along the sides, open mesh across the back. Black chain link is the usual answer because it reads as a boundary without blocking the canal view you paid for. Plenty of Cape Coral homeowners find out about this rule after they have already bought a fence. We check the lot first.

Six feet is the cap everywhere in residential Cape Coral, waterfront or not, and every fence needs its height, type, design and location approved in writing before a post goes in.

05 / Pool fence

Pool fence in
Cape Coral.

A residential pool in Cape Coral needs a barrier at least four feet high, and the gate does most of the work. Self-closing, self-latching, and the latch set where a child cannot reach it. Gates that sag or catch are the reason pool barriers fail inspection, so the hinge and latch hardware is worth more attention than the panels.

Cape Coral will not sign off on a pool until the barrier is up. That has a schedule consequence most homeowners miss: the fence is not the last job on a new pool, it is the one standing between you and filling the pool. If you are building, tell us the pool timeline when you call.

Aluminum and black chain link are the common picks for a pool run because both keep sightlines to the water. Vinyl works where you want the pool screened from the neighbors entirely.

06 / HOA

HOA approval in the newer Cape Coral communities.

North of Pine Island Road and out through Sandoval, Entrada and the newer builds, the HOA usually has an opinion before the city does. Material, color, height and sometimes which way the finished side faces are all commonly restricted, and a few communities allow no privacy fence at all, only aluminum picket.

The order matters. HOA architectural approval first, city permit second. Doing the reverse means paying for a permit on a fence the association then rejects. If your community has an approved materials list, send it with your measurements and we will quote inside it.

The older southeast and southwest Cape blocks are mostly unrestricted, so there the city rules are the only rules.

07 / Wind and salt

Building a Cape Coral fence that survives the weather.

A fence here fights two things. Salt air corrodes anything unprotected, which is why fasteners and hardware matter more in Cape Coral than they do inland. And wind load is a function of how solid the fence is. Open chain link lets wind pass through. A solid privacy fence is a sail, and the load goes into the posts and the footings.

That is the honest trade. Privacy costs you wind resistance. The answer is not a flimsier fence, it is the right post depth and spacing for the run, and gates built to take the abuse, because gates and end posts are where fences fail first.

Cape Coral is still replacing fence lost to Ian. If you are repairing rather than starting fresh, tell us what is still standing.

08 / Where we work

Cape Coral neighborhoods we fence.

Southeast Cape around the Yacht Club, Bimini Basin and Four Mile Cove, where the lots are older and often already have a fence to pull out. Southwest Cape toward Cape Harbour and Tarpon Point, mostly canal lots where the open-mesh rule applies. Northwest and north Cape out to Burnt Store Road, where the lots are bigger and dry. The newer communities along Pine Island Road, Sandoval and Entrada, where an HOA usually has an opinion about material and color before the city does.

We also work the rest of Southwest Florida: Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Estero, Bonita Springs, Naples, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and North Port.

09 / Gates

Gates are where Cape Coral fences fail.

A fence panel sits still. A gate swings a few thousand times a year, carries its own weight on two hinges, and takes the same wind the rest of the run does. Almost every fence repair call starts at a gate.

What we build for: a gate post set deeper than a line post, because the load is different. Hardware rated for salt air, since cheap hinges in Cape Coral rust within a season or two. Diagonal bracing on anything wide, so the gate does not drop and drag. And a drive gate wide enough for what actually has to get through, which on a Cape Coral lot is usually a trailer, a mower or a boat on a hitch.

Measure the widest thing you own before you pick a gate width. A four-foot walk gate and a ten-foot drive gate cover most Cape Coral yards.

10 / Waterfront

Fence, deck and dock on the same Cape Coral lot.

On a canal lot the fence does not stand alone. The fence ends where the deck starts, the deck meets the seawall, and the dock runs off the seawall into the water. Three trades, three schedules, and usually three separate arguments about who is responsible for the gap between them.

Crown builds all three. Fence, deck and dock, from one contractor, on one schedule. That is the practical reason a Cape Coral waterfront homeowner would call us rather than a fence-only company, and it is why the open-mesh rule at the rear line is a conversation we have every week rather than a surprise at inspection.

See decks and dock building, resurfacing and railings, or commercial fencing if the property is a yard, a lot or a site.

11 / Questions

Cape Coral fence questions we get asked.

How much does a fence cost in Cape Coral? Starting rates run from $19.99 a foot for galvanized chain link to $38.95 a foot for vinyl. A 150 foot backyard is roughly $2,999 to $5,843 depending on material, before gates, property type, retaining walls and site conditions are added.

How tall can a fence be in Cape Coral? Six feet in residential districts.

Can I put a privacy fence on a canal lot? Not all the way back. Within 20 feet of the rear property line anything above three feet must be open mesh, so privacy runs down the sides and the back stays open.

Do I need a permit for a fence in Cape Coral? Yes, and the height, type, design and location have to be approved in writing first. We handle the submission.

What fence lasts longest in Cape Coral? Vinyl and Dura Fence, because salt air does not corrode either. Wood lasts well when it is sealed, and chain link outlives most things because there is so little surface for weather to attack.

How tall does a pool fence have to be? Four feet minimum around a residential pool, with self-closing and self-latching gate hardware.

Is barbed wire allowed in Cape Coral? Not on residential property. Chain link is fine, chain link with slats is not.

Do you do horizontal wood fence? Yes, at the same starting rate as vertical, from $28.95 a foot. Horizontal has become the popular look in the newer Cape Coral neighborhoods.
