Starting rates run from $19.99 a foot for galvanized chain link to $38.95 a foot for vinyl. Wood starts at $28.95 a foot, vertical or horizontal.
A 150 foot backyard lands roughly between $2,999 and $5,843 on material alone. What moves the number after that is gates, how many and how wide, whether the old fence has to come out, retaining walls, slope, and how much room a crew has to work in. A corner lot with two gates and a seawall setback is a different job from a flat rectangle.
Use the estimator to size the job before you call. The number it gives you is a starting point, not a quote.
Before you build
Almost every fence in Southwest Florida needs a permit, and which office issues one depends on your address. Inside a city limit that is the city. Outside, the county. We pull it either way and submit the height, type, design and location.
Height limits are set locally and they are not the same everywhere. Six feet is common in a residential rear or side yard. Front yards are lower. Waterfront lots carry their own rules about what can sit near the seawall.
Two more worth settling before a crew arrives: where the property line actually runs, and whether an HOA has to approve the material. A survey settles the first. We will tell you what is needed for the second.
Questions
What is the cheapest fence? Galvanized chain link, starting at $19.99 a foot. Wood, starting at $28.95, is the cheapest privacy fence.
What holds up best in salt air? Vinyl and Dura Fence, because salt does not corrode either one. Chain link does well too, because there is so little surface for weather to attack.
What happens to a fence in a hurricane? Chain link lets wind pass straight through. On a solid fence what matters is not the material but the post depth, the post spacing and the footings.
Do you do horizontal wood fence? Yes, at the same starting rate as vertical, from $28.95 a foot.
Can you repair a fence instead of replacing it? Often. A leaning run is usually one bad post. We will tell you honestly when a repair is throwing money at a fence that is done.
What is Dura Fence? Steel planks that go up like a privacy fence, in black, white, woodgrain or grey. They do not rot.
